MAE142 - Dynamics and Control of Aerospace Vehicles

Time and place: Our group last taught this class in Winter 2010 (Class Section ID: 674566), and is not scheduled to teach it in 2010-2011.

Instructor: Thomas Bewley

TAs: Andrew Cavender

Text: This class is taught from selected sections of Numerical Renaissance, Landau & Lifshitz, and Tewari & Wie's books, with supplemental texts held on reserve at the library as announced in class.

Assignments: HW1, HW1 solutions, HW2, HW2 solutions, Midterm, HW4, HW5.

Course description: The dynamics of vehicles in space or air are derived for analysis of the stability properties of spacecraft and aircraft. The theory of flight, lift, drag, dutch roll and phugoid modes of aircraft are discussed. Optimal state space control theory for the design of analog and digital controllers (autopilots).

Prerequisites: MAE104, MAE130b, and MAE143b or its equivalent. Of these, the latter two are the most important.

Policies: Please read the Course & Homework Policy for this class.
